Job Summary

The Data Center Cabler is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and documentation of structured cabling systems within data center environments. This role supports critical infrastructure by ensuring all copper and fiber cabling is installed, labeled, tested, and maintained to industry standards, enabling reliable network, server, and storage operations.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, route, and secure copper (Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6A) and fiber optic cabling in data center environments
  • Terminate and test copper and fiber cables, including patch panels, racks, and enclosures
  • Perform cable labeling and documentation in accordance with data center standards
  • Install and maintain cable management systems (ladder racks, trays, raceways)
  • Support equipment installations, including rack-and-stack of servers, network, and storage devices
  • Troubleshoot and repair cabling issues, connectivity problems, and signal faults
  • Perform cable testing using appropriate tools (OTDR, power meters, certification testers)
  • Follow data center safety, security, and change-management procedures
  • Maintain clean, organized, and compliant cabling infrastructure
  • Work closely with network, systems, and facilities teams to support operational needs
  • Participate in data center moves, adds, and changes (MAC work)

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience in data center or structured cabling environments
  • Hands-on experience with copper and fiber cabling installation and termination
  • Knowledge of TIA/EIA cabling standards and data center best practices
  • Experience working in live production data center environments
  • Ability to read and interpret cabling diagrams, floor plans, and schematics

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry certifications (BICSI, ETA, CompTIA Network+, Fiber Optic Technician)
  • Experience with MPO/MTP fiber cabling and high-density environments
  • Familiarity with DCIM tools and cable documentation systems
  • Experience supporting large-scale data center builds or migrations

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to pass both preemployment and random drug screenings
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work in confined spaces for extended periods
  • Comfortable working on ladders or raised floors

 

Work Environment

  • Able to work up to 6 days per week, 10–12-hour days
  • On-site data center environment
  • May require shift work, on-call support, or after-hours maintenance
  • Adherence to strict security and safety protocols
